I am deeply amazed by the great universal popularity of the Harry Potter novels. The Harry Potter books were written by the English author J.K. Rowling. She was born on 31 July 1965. Her name is Joanne Rowling. But she writes under the abbreviation J.K. Rowling because primarily her publishing company considered it was a beneficial idea to hide the matter that she is female. The publishing company thought it could have a negative effect on the sales numbers if everybody instantly sees that the writer is a woman. Thus, instead of using her first name she used two letters. As she has no middle name she chose Kathleen as basis for the K. in her abbreviation. Kathleen is the name of her fathers mother.

The very first Harry Potter book – Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone – was released mid 1997 in the United Kingdom. Quite funny is the aspect that only 1,000 units of the first novel were produced at the beginning. The original title of the book was not Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, but Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. But when the book was published to the American market in the year 1998, it was publicized as Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone.

After that J.K. invented 6 additional Harry Potter books. Finally the Harry Potter series is made of 7 books. These are:

  • Story 1: Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone
  • Story 2: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
  • Story 3: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
  • Story 4: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  • Story 5: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  • Story 6: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
  • Story 7: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The Harry Potter novels have been translated into at least 65 languages and have been publicized in various countries. Besides the huge success in the United States of America and the United Kingdom, Harry Potter is also very famous in Germany. The Harry Potter novels have been published to the German audience under the following titles:

I must admit that I did not have the opportunity to read all the books. But there are fans who know them all, which is quite impressive and makes up the huge success.
